| The view from our Studio Room at Suncadia Lodge. |
Darling Husband
and I spent a couple of days at the Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash., and we
are totally in love.
We hosted our
families for Thanksgiving for the second year in a row, and I talked Dane into
getting out of town on Black Friday to recover. In just 2.5 short hours,
we had left our Tumwater home and had arrived at Suncadia.
Thanksgiving
weekend kicked off Suncadia's holiday activities and boy was it festive!
Dickens Carolers singing to us at dinner, kids making gingerbread houses, ice
skating under lights and huge fire pits to roast s'mores over.
Stay: We stayed two
nights in the lodge, which was the hub of holiday merriment. We did see some
dogs, but I wouldn't recommend taking your dog to the lodge. Rent a home
instead to give Fido more space to run. Dogs are not allowed on the river side
of the lodge. Our room was quiet and well-furnished with a stunning riverside
view. We seriously couldn't get enough of the view.
Eat: We had
drinks and dinner at Fifty-6 Degrees Lounge, which was my favorite because of
lack of little ones and relaxed vibe. Portals Restaurant was delicious. Dane
had steak and I had a lamb shank and mashed potatoes. But it was one of the
most expensive dinners we have had in a long time. On the second day, we joined
friends for lunch at SwiftWater Cellars Winery. SwiftWater was very hip and the
wine flights are a fun way to taste some of the wine (and you get a free glass
or wine key).
Do: Enjoy the
view. Every day Dane and I took a moment to appreciate the untouched
gorgeousness happening outside. Also, walk! It was a little icy/snowy, so bring
your boots so you can walk all of the paved pathways around the resort. We spent Saturday morning
on a free home tour of some lovely homes for sale at Tumble Creek, a gated
community in Suncadia right across the river. It was fun to be a looky-loo and
dream a bit.
Verdict: If you
love Christmas, nature and family togetherness, Suncadia is for you. No joke –
Dane grabbed one of the real estate fliers from our home tour and it hangs on
our fridge so we can dream a little every day. Want to bring your dog? Rent a
home and tucker them out with long walks and games of fetch each day. Want to
bring your kids? They will love it, but please closely watch them. The lodge
felt like a zoo at some points of our stay.
