Hammerschlagen + Corn Hole at Oktoberfest NW

Playing Hammerschlagen with some new friends at Oktoberfest NW!
Beer, games and polka dancing! Dane and I celebrated his German heritage at Oktoberfest Northwest in Puyallup, Wash., at the Washington State Fairgrounds.

I will be honest. I had to talk Darling Husband into this fun day trip. It was rainy (October in Western Washington, people) and it seemed so much easier to cuddle under blankets and sit on the couch all day.

Yes there was rain and traffic for our drive north, but we were rewarded mightily.

Ok so we started things off right - placating my husband and making him happy by feeding him of course. The soft pretzel was cold and stale, or maybe it was never fully cooked from the start. But the kids area had root beer floats and that seemed to put a smile on his face.

M cute little pumpkin!

I happily decorated a mini pumpkin with little pom balls and glue. I was not the only adult doing so.

We grabbed a beer and headed over to the adult games. Hammerschlagen involves a group of people standing around piece of cut log. The contest is to see who can hammer in their nail into the log first, using the wrong end of the hammer. I started off in the lead. I was unusually good at this. But Dane beat us all in the end.

Next, we got to play corn hole against another couple we had played hammerschlagen with. I'm terrible at corn hole. I made it in the hole once. I'm not afraid to admit that.

Waiting to play corn hole...

We did not dance the polka, but greatly enjoyed the live music.

Verdict: Oktoberfest now needs to be a family tradition for Dane and I. We had so much fun playing the games and doing the activities.
Come for the beer and games! Go elsewhere for dinner.
