| The Band Perry performs at the Tulalip Resort Casino recently. |
Recently, darling
husband and I drove north to see a concert by The Band Perry. I love this band
for its folksy, rock ‘n’roll vibe. Its songs remind me of driving with my
windows down through golden wheat fields in Walla Walla.
The concert was held at the Tulalip Resort Casino in Marysville, Wash. We had reserved a room in its hotel for an easy overnight trip.

The concert
started at 7 p.m. and we got to the hotel about 5 p.m. ready
to eat some dinner.
This is when I quickly learned that I know absolutely nothing about casinos.

All of the onsite
dining options (except room service) are in the casino with the cigarette
smoke. Ew. I wanted my dinner without a side of cancer, so darling husband and
I headed to the outlet mall across the street had dinner at The Ram. It wasn't
fancy, but we had a draft beer and hot sandwiches and I was happy.
The amphitheater at the Tulalip is open air, so I did a quick change into warmer attire and we headed to the show.
The venue was small and held about 2,200 people. The people who stood/sat in front of me were really tall so visibility of the stage was not always possible, but I liked how intimate the space was. I would definitely recommend the facilities folks stagger the chairs for improved visibility because I know stadium seating is not an option on the lawn.

Drinks were
available on site and there were porta potties. The weather was warm and the
other concert-goers were well-behaved.
The opening act was Rae Solomon from Enumclaw/Maple Valley nearby. It was fun to hear she had a local connection and she had a soulful, fun performance.

The Band Perry
sang all of my favorite songs including some covers like "Uptown
Funk," "Fat-Bottomed Girls" and "I Will Always Love You."
After the concert, Dane and I enjoyed the short walk back to the casino hotel. The hotel itself was not smoky. It was great!

We placed a
breakfast room service order for the next morning, headed down to the main
floor to explore the pool area, got a drink from the bar and enjoyed some
people watching. The best was a bride and groom still in their wedding clothes
both carrying huge cases of Bud Light.
The hotel room was expensive and gorgeous. We really paid for the convenience of not having to get into the car after the concert, but I would do it again. Warm red and beige tones made it feel tribal and glamorous.

Breakfast arrived
at 7 a.m. sharp when a delightful staff member rolled a white tabled-clothed table
into our room. We had eggs and French toast for breakfast. The food was good
and it felt like we were in a movie to eat in such a fancy way in our room.
Verdict: Definitely go see a concert at the Tulalip in the open-air amphitheater. Not on a budget? Stay at the hotel, too!
