A Girls Lunch at Wesport Winery

A lovely lunch for two ladies included delicious margaritas at Westport Winery in September 2015.
Aberdeen, Washington is a small logging town on Grays Harbor. Aberdeen is special to me because itis where I met my husband and some wonderful lifelong friends.

I didn't get to do a full tourist experience in this town last weekend, but I had one memorable lunch with my mother in law at Westport Winery that is in my opinion a do-not-miss stop on the way to Westport on the coast or if you are visiting the Aberdeen/Hoquiam area.

Westport Winery is just fun. The wines are creatively named and the atmosphere is exciting. Full disclosure, I was part of Westport Winery's wine club in 2010.

Going back to the winery this September, my mother-in-law and I were treated to beautiful weather - perfect for a ladies lunch out.

The tasting room was packed at 1 pm on a Saturday, but the dining area was not. We were seated immediately by the cook of the restaurant at a table near a sunny window.

The special of the day was a margarita - at a winery, who knew? They have a full bar. The margarita was gorgeous in color and limey and fresh. We ordered lunch, seafood pasta with Cougar Gold cheese for Diane, a crab melt for me.

Diane's meal came with clam chowder, which was good, but needed salt and pepper. My crab melt was the perfect temperature and had a side of Yukon gold potatoes covered in oil and mozzarella. Delicious comfort food for a fall day.

After we enjoyed our lunch, we perused the gift area. They always have a knick knack or cocktail napkin for every taste. I also bought two bottles of their drier wines for my collection at home - sparkling wine called Going Coastal and their Pinot Gris, called Fleur de Lis.

I have been blessed enough to have lived and worked previously in both the Wilamette Valley and Walla Walla Valley wine regions, both wine hubs in the Pacific Northwest, so I can tell you Westport Winery is not the place for wine snobs. It is not going to be the best of the best.

But it will be unpretentious and fun. They recently expanded the bar in the tasting room to accommodate large groups (bachelorette party!) and this would be a perfect treat for anyone you know who loves a sweeter wine like a moscato.
